This course extends your knowledge of topics studied in A2 Mathmatics if you want to devlop your mathmatical ability and is a prefered subject for degrees in Mathmatics, Physics and Engineering.
You will study:
- 2 x 2 matrices
- Proof of series
- Complex numbers and parabolas
- 1st and 2nd differential equations
- Further complex numbers
- Modulus of graphical functions
- Approximations using Taylors and Maclaurin’s series
- Projectile motion
- Centre of gravity
- Energy and moments
This course is 100% exam based.

This is a linear subject which means they are examined entirely at the end of year two, although in some cases you will be entered for the AS exam at the end of year one. You may want to consider choosing a mixture of linear and non-linear (modular) subjects.
Students are required to have a Casio natural display calculator.
The APS (Average Point Score) of 40 = an average of grade C in all GCSE’s taken. BTEC equivalents are not acceptable.
AS Mathematics at grade 7/C or above. You will also need an APS 44* and 5 GCSEs at grade 8/A in Maths, grade 5/C or above in English, and a grade 6/B or above in double award science, or a single science and maths.
