Develop your technical skills and experiences to enter design or managerial careers within the construction industry.You will gain hands-on experience whilst studying practical and theoretical units such as: sustainability, construction technology and design, surveying, science and materials, civil engineering and maths in construction.

You will be expected to undertake a minimum of 1 week work experience each year in a related industry sector. While we will help you to find the work experience, in some instances it may not be possible to gain this; if this is the case then you will then undertake a week of employment related activities.

80% theory vs 20% practical

You will learn through lecturers and presentations from staff and guest speakers from the construction industry. There will be research and design assignments alongside visits to leading industry specialists including employers, contracters, manufacturers and suppliers.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the HNC in Construction and the Built Environment at University Centre Stamford or other Construction and Engineering degrees at university.

You could also progress into employment in job roles such as a:

  • Surveyor
  • Quantity Surveyor
  • Estimator
  • Purchaser
  • Contracts/Projects Manager or other supervisory roles.

Assessment is through a combination of assignments and summative examination.

Each unit will receive at least one input from industry specialists; guest speakers and visits will be arranged for example to the British Research Establishment. You will have the opportunity to visit the Construction Trade Fair at the NEC in Birmingham, as well as other trade based events. You can also take part in regional and national competitions such as World Skills-Build which has seen the very best in Construction compete for over 45 years.

5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above, or a relevant Level 2 trade qualification
