This course has been designed by Professional Photographers to meet the needs of the industry. It will provide you with the fundamental knowledge of photography and moving image practice and has a strong industry focus and introduces you to many high profile industry professionals through our quality visiting speaker programme. Some previous visitors include photographers Edgar Martins, Peter Dench, Toby Smith, James O’Jenkins, Lottie Davies and agency owners Laura Pritchard and Marco Santucci.

You will undertake practical workshops, one-to-one tutorials, seminars, lectures and research strategies to support your development as an independent Photographer.

An essential feature of your course will be your involvement in practical learning activities, building confidence when working with visual problems and ideas relevant to graphic design whilst taking professional and work-related practices in to consideration.

A range of assessments will enable you to grow in confidence. The assessment methods will include – coursework, a portfolio of photography, research portfolios, notebooks, essays and presentations.

Successful completion of this course will provide you with the qualifications required to ‘top-up’ to a full Bachelor’s Degree at a university of your choice in just one year. Acceptance on to these courses is at the discretion of the institution offering the top-up.

You could also progress in to the photography industry locally, nationally or worldwide, in roles such as a Professional Photographer, Photography Assistant, Picture Librarian, Magazine Picture Editor, or Technician.

You will have access to a range of digital and analogue photographic equipment including medium format, digital back and ‘wet’ dark room for traditional black and white photography, and benefit from a large studio space equipped with Macs running the latest Adobe Suite software, print room including screen print table, large format printers and a photo studio.

You will also have access to an Academic Support Tutor to assist you with your studies and Careers Advisors to help you with your future employment.

You will undertake trips to London, visit exhibitions and have the opportunity to take part in an overseas trip to support your development. In past years, students have visited Barcelona and New York.

You will be encouraged to engage with various industry competitions for example The Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize, Documenting Britain and LensCulture.

Visits from guest speakers from the industry will develop your knowledge of different career opportunities and gain an insight in to professional working practice, while developing real-life skills in team working, goal setting and communication, as well as exhibiting your own projects.

You will engage in industry work experience, which can take various forms, for example, work placements, freelance work, exhibitions and entrepreneurialism.
