This course will allow you to choose your specialist trade or continue to cover multiple trades for employment in Maintenance Operations or Property Management.

You will have the opportunity to meet guest speakers from the industry to develop your knowledge of different career opportunities within the trade. Meeting guest speakers will provide you with advice from experts in the field to give you insight in to the latest construction methods used by various industries.

This course is approximately 10% theory and 90% practical.

You will learn through practical workshop sessions delivered by industry specialists. You will complete practical training assignments until you’ve gained the skills you need to complete practical assessments. Theory sessions will be delivered through video discussions, worksheets and presentations as well as online resources.

On successful completion of this course you can specialise in a particular trade with a Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery orPlumbing Level 1 Diplomas or continue to study multiple trades with an Maintenance Operation Level 2 Diploma. You could also progress on to a Construction Apprenticeship.

 

You will complete 2 theory units which are assessed through assessment worksheets. Practical assessment will be undertaken internally within the practical workshops.

You will be expected to undertake 1 week work experience on a construction site, in a workshop or in a construction related field. While we will help you to find the work experience, in some instances it may not be possible to gain this; if this is the case then you will then undertake a week of employment related activities.

You will require a uniform consisting of steel toe capped boots and overalls which can be purchased from our website. During your interview you will also sit an online suitability assessment. The result of this, plus your previous academic achievements and maturity will determine the level of course you are offered.
