This course is your next step towards becoming a qualified Electrician. You will gain practical experience with tasks to replicate industry standard electrical installations. You will learn the theory of DC, AC and environmental installation, basic principles of generating, transmitting and distributing electricity, and the regulations and requirements for domestic installations, and develop practical skills in our professional electrical workshops.

You will be required to undertake 1 week work experience with an electrician, on a construction site or in a construction related field. You will also be expected to take part in community projects.

This course is approximately 70% theory and 30% practical.

You will complete a range of units including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Principles of Electrical Science
  • Electrical Installation technology
  • Installation of wiring systems and Technology
  • Understanding of communication with others within the building services

You will complete work books and assignments using online resources. You will begin to demonstrate independent learning skills and continue your professional development with a Construction work placement. Throughout this course you will also have the opportunity to complete many community projects, preparing you for work in the industry with on-site experience. The course is summative assessed by a practical assignment and final on-line test.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the Electrical Installation Technical Certificate Level 3 or Construction and the Built Environment Diploma Level 3 with a view to progressing to university or into a managerial apprenticeship. You could also progress to job roles such as an Electrical Assistant or an Installation or Maintenance Electrician Apprentice.

You will complete practical assessments at your own speed ending the year with a practical timed assessment. Theory assessment will be completed through online tests.

You will require a warehouse coat, work trousers and laced safety footwear, along with reference books and stationery. You will be sent a full list of materials and equipment prior to enrolment.

5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above including English and maths at grade 6/B or above, or an Electrical Installation Diploma Level 1 with good academic potential.
