Support the delivery of healthcare services to people and carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks. You will learn to provide high quality, compassionate healtcare, following standards, policies or protocols and always act within the limits of your competence. You may work with a range of services e.g. hospital, community, health or birth centre, operating theatre, nursing or care home, hospice or GP surgery; working in partnership with families, carers or other service providers.

You will be employed as an apprentice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a workplace mentor, such as a registered healthcare practitioner. You will attend college for workshop sessions as required. An assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress against standards and set SMART objectives.

On completion of this apprenticeship you can apply to university to study to become a Registered Healthcare Practitioner. After gaining experience in the sector, you could progress in your career by working towards an Assistant Practitioner role.

Individual employers set their own entry requirements. However, you will typically required 5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above includng English and maths.
