This course will allow you to develop your knowledge and skills in sport and public services. You will take part in sports activities and learn how the body works. You will also develop key skills in English, maths and ICT to develop your independence and employability.
Throughout the year you will take part in activities arranged by a range of guest speakers including:
• The Prison Service
• Royal Air Force
• Royal Navy
• Royal Marines
• British Army
• Fire Service
Along with other services as and when the opportunities arise. There will be opportunities to volunteer and enhance your CV through community based projects in the local area.
This course is approximately 80% theory and 20% practical.
You will study the following units:
- Taking part in exercise and fitness
- How the body works
- Assisting a leader of a sports or leisure activity
- Investigating rights and responsibilities at work
- Exploring career choices
- Working as part of a group
- Working towards goals
- Preparation for work
You will learn through group work, peer assessment, individual tasks, methods of ILT and powerpoint presentations. You will take part in activities including: St Georges park English Institute of sport Olympic Stadium Birmingham futsal arena University visits Skiing trip Lilleshall national centre for excellence
On successful completion of this course you could progress on to the Public Services or Sport Diploma Level 2, or enter employment.
There will be a variety of assessment methods used (written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions being some) youwill gaina thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce. All course work orientated.
This is a uniformed service course which is aimed to prepare for entry into the public services. It consists of both practical and theory lessons and is highly disciplined to implement how the services will be upon entry.
No formal entry qualifications are required.
