You will study both the practical and theoretical elements of beauty therapy including: health, safety and hygiene, consultation techniques, manicure treatments, pedicure treatments, waxing services, facial treatments, skin type analysis, eyebrow shaping services, eyelash and eyebrow tinting services, make-up application, and anatomy and physiology for beauty therapists. You will become proficient in giving expert aftercare advice and promoting retail products in our fully functional beauty clinics. You will be taught by a diverse range of tutors who have a wealth of industry experience.

One week’s work experience within a salon is mandatory. As part of your work experience you will be expected to manage the Hair and Beauty reception desk as well as supporting college open evenings and charity events throughout the year. -You will be expected to perform a diverse range of professional treatments on members of the public who book into the ‘Inspire salon’.

You will have the opportunity to take part in a number of trips, activities and competitions throughout the year. Previous trips and visits include: Salon International, The Clothes Show, Goldwell Academy London, Steiner Cruise Ships Careers Event, and a number of local employer masterclasses. You will also showcase your new skills in our Annual Fashion Show.

This course is approximately 50% theory and 50% practical.

Completion of projects/assignments and homework tasks to broaden your knowledge and understanding in all aspects of beauty Therapy. -Initially you will develop your practical skills by practicing treatments on other therapist within your group. You will be expected to receive all treatments whilst you are learning and developing new skills. -Eventually you will progress onto public salon sessions whereby you will be performing a variety of professional treatments on the general public within a real salon environment, preparing you for Level 3 beauty and furthermore higher education or industry. • Additional beauty training – depending on the trends in industry for the year. E.g. Gel polish or ear piercing etc.

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to the Beauty Therapy or Massage Therapy Diploma Level 3, or to careers in commercial salons, destination spas, hotel chains, cruise ships or airlines.

Practical assessments will be completed throughout your course as you provide treatments to clients and produce a portfolio of evidence. You will also be assessed through an external exam, graded synoptic test, a treatment portfolio.

Candidates wishing to pursue a career in this industry should be of smart appearance, reliable, articulate and of a caring nature with good communications skills. -You will be required to purchase a beauty uniform and a kit; this is mandatory requirement within the first six weeks to enable you to complete this course. -You will be notified about the contents and the suppliers of both the kit and uniform during the Inspire information day. -It is imperative that you plan ahead as you will be expected to source your own clients to enable you to complete your practical assessments

4 GCSEs at grades 3/D or above, including English, maths and science, or a relevant Level 1 qualification.
