Develop your professional and specialist skills in hairdressing through the study of advanced cutting and colouring techniques including creative styling and dressing, advanced perming, creative colouring and colour correction. You will gain practical experience in our on-site commercial salon and develop your hair design portfolio working on catwalks, fashion shoots and competitions.

You will have regular visits from industry professionals throughout the course such as visits from Charles Fox, London (with the opportunity to visit their training salon in Covent Garden), UK body painters and special effects experts, as well as successful past students now working in industry. You will also have the opportunity to compete in regional and national competitions such as the AHT Hair and Make-Up Awards, and showcase your skills in our End of Year Hair and Fashion Show.

This course is approximately 30% theory and 70% practical.

You will perform a range of hairdressing services in a realistic working salon environment. You will learn through live practical demonstrations, research, inspirational and small group based activities.

You will be expected to complete a minimum of 1 day in a salon per week for the duration of your course.

After successful completion of this course you could progress on to careers in commercial salons, destination spas or for hotel chains, cruise ships or airlines.

You could also further your studies with a degree at university e.g:

  • Spa Management
  • Hair and Beauty Management
  • Hair and Make-up for Theatre, Special Effects, Fashion and TV at University

The majority of your assessment will be through practical observation. You will complete online tests, assignments and a portfolio of evidence to assess your knowledge and understanding of Hairdressing.

Full kit and uniform will be required for this course. Youwill be required to source clients for practical learning and gain relevant work experience.

A Level 2 Hairdressing qualification or equivalent. Mature students may offer experience in a salon as an alternative to normal qualifications.

You will study a range of units including:

• Promoting additional services or products to customers

• Monitoring procedures to safely control work operations

• Providing hairdressing consultation services

• Creatively cutting hair using a combination of techniques

 

Optional:

• Colour hair using a variety of techniques

• Provide colour correction services

• Creatively style and dress hair

• Creatively dress long hair

• Develop and enhance creative hairdressing skills
