Master your skills for a career in film, editorial, theatre or special effects make-up through covering a range of topics including: airbrushing, camouflage, fashion and photographic make-up, styling and fitting a postiche, wig services and the advanced cutting and dressing of women’s hair. You will gain extensive work experience at local theatres, amature dramatic groups and fashion shows.

You will have regular visits from industry professionals throughout the course such as visits from Charles Fox, London (with the opportunity to visit their training salon in Covent Garden), UK body painters and special effects experts, as well as successful past students now working in industry. You will also have the opportunity to compete in regional and national competitions such as the AHT Hair and Make-Up Awards, and showcase your skills in our End of Year Hair and Fashion Show.

This course is approximately 30% theory and 70% practical.

There will be a lot of underpinning written work to begin with .Each unit will have at least one written assignment and several practical assessments Extensive work experience to be completed before May.60 hours in hair and 60 hours in make-up.

After successful completion of this course you will be able to progress to University to study a Media Make-up or Special Effects Make-up degree. You could also enter employment in theatres, TV studios, cosmetic counters and on cruise ships.

Each unit will have at least one written assignments and several practical assessments and end of unit tests.

Candidates wishing to pursue a career in this industry should be of smart appearance, reliable, articulate and of a caring nature with good communications skills. -You will be required to purchase a media uniform and a kit; this is mandatory requirement within the first six weeks to enable you to complete this course. -You will be notified about the contents and the suppliers of both the kit and uniform during the Inspire information day. -It is imperative that you plan ahead as you will be expected to source your own clients to enable you to complete your practical assessments.

A Hair and Media Make Up, Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy Diploma Level 2 or a Beauty Diploma Level 2 qualification.

You will study a range of units including:

• Apply airbrush make-up to the face

• Camouflage make-up

• Media make-up

• Style and fit postiche

•Fashion and photographic make-up

• Client care and communication in beauty-related industries

• Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon Optional:

• Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks

• Creative hairdressing design skills
