Develop your creative skills in hairdressing and media make up for a career in film, editorial theatre or special effects. This exciting course covers a range of topics taught in our on-site make up studio including; airbrushing, camouflage, fashion and photographic make up, styling and fitting a postiche with the option to explore cutting and dressing womens hair.

You will have regular visits from industry professionals throughout the course such as visits from Charles Fox, London (with the opportunity to visit their training salon in Covent Garden), UK body painters and special effects experts, as well as successful past students now working in industry. You will also have the opportunity to compete in regional and national competitions such as the AHT Hair and Make-Up Awards, and showcase your skills in our End of Year Hair and Fashion Show.

This course is approximately 30% theory and 70% practical.

You will learn through practical demonstrationsin our recently refurbished professional make up studio.

After successful completion of this course you will be able to progress to University to study a Media Make-up or Special Effects Make-up degree. You could also enter employment in theatres, TV studios, cosmetic counters and on cruise ships.

Each unit will have at least one written assignments and several practical assessments and end of unit tests.

Youwill need to purchase a college kit and uniform through the college. You will add to the kit throughout the year and are also expected to source clients for practical learning and gain relevant work experience.

A Hair and Media Make Up, Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy Diploma Level 2 or a Beauty Diploma Level 2 qualification.

You will study a range of units including:

• Apply airbrush make-up to the face

• Camouflage make-up

• Media make-up

• Style and fit postiche

• Fashion and photographic make-up

• Client care and communication in beauty-related industries

• Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon

Optional:

• Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks

• Creative hairdressing design skills
