Sport and exercise scientists continue to be a growing presence in the world of work. This course has a greater emphasis on sports science units which are an entry requirement on degrees such as Physiotherapy and Sport Science. You will study units that reflect your own aspirations and the diverse nature of the sport science sector including; anatomy and physiology, sports nutrition, sport psychology, sport and exercise physiology, fitness testing, sports nutrition, research methods, exercise health and lifestyle.

You will gain top tips from guest speakers and have the chance to go on trips to real workplaces within the industry such as St Georges Park and The King Power Stadium, the home of the 2016 Premier League Champions Leicester City. Other trips and visits may include, English Institute of Sport, Olympic Stadium, Birmingham Futsal Arena and the opportunity for a residential Skiing Trip.

This course is approximately 20% theory and 80% practical.

You will study the following units:

• Exercise, Health and Lifestyle

• Work Experience

• Sports Nutrition

• Research Methods

• Sport and Exercise Physiology.

Learning will be through group work, peer assessment, individual tasks, methods of ILT, power point presentations.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to study the HND in Sports and Exercise Science at University Centre Stamford, or other sport degrees at University. You could also progress to careers in Sports Coaching, PE Teaching, Physiotherapy, Sports Journalism or Sports Therapy.

There will be a variety of assessment methods used (written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions being some) and learners will have a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce. One unit – external examination. One unit – external coursework. Most units coursework assessed.

Course cost of approx. £150.00 will be towards uniform and trips/visits

Rugby Development Centre now available to Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma Level 3 students.



The centre has been designed for students keen to maintain further studying whilst continuing to pursue training and practice in Rugby.


Monday to Thursday – Study Sport and Exercise Extended Diploma Level 3 (see image below). Friday – 3 hours Rugby Training EXTRA – 3 hours training to be secured weekly with either Stamford Rugby Club or a local club of your choice.


Stamford Rugby Club: Tuesday 7.00 to 8.30pm and Thursday 7.00 to 8.30pm.

5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and maths or a Merit grade in the Sport Diploma Level 2.
