Specialise in music production and sequencing, studio sound recording and music business. Experience the music production process from beginning to end including planning recording sessions, learning recording techniques as well as mixing and mastering your recorded music. You will also gain practical skills in using synthesis and live sound reinforcement as well as an element of music business with the opportunity to work with our Infinity record lable and radio station.

To give you a real experience of the current UK music industry you will have the opportunity to visit venues such as Rock City, BBC Radio, Rutland Radio, local gigs and festivals such as The Willow Festival and Stamford Willows Festival. You will also meet a variety of professionals from the music industry and visit different music trade shows such as BPM and PLAZA to inspire your artistic development.

This course is 100% coursework based.

You will study the following units:

  • Digital and analogue synthesis
  • Radio/podcast production
  • Music event management
  • Setting up a music business
  • Sound Design

This is a hands-on music production course. Much of your time will be spent in our recording and production spaces, working in small groups and individually. You will have your own DAW and will spend a significant amount of time studying individually. There is an expectation that you will carry out individual study outside of your scheduled timetable. Practical assessments take place at local music venues in order to give you real world experience of working in the industry.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the HNC/ HND in Music at University Centre Stamford or other music degrees at university. You could also progress to careers such as a Music Producer, Live Sound Engineer, Broadcaster, Music Promoter or Music Manager.

There are no exams for this course. Students build a portfolio of practical work for each of the units and complete written assignments.

You will need to purchase an equipment pack at the start of the year costing £30. Units subject to change. You will also be able to participate in running the of the College radio station and record label where you can release your own music through major online retailers such as iTunes. 5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above, preferably including English and maths at grades 4/C or above, or a Merit in a relevant Level 2 Diploma. You will also be required to provide examples or a portfolio of work at interview.
