Gain an introduction to the world of travel and tourism through the study of customer service, business, events, marketing, retail, hospitality operations, European destinations, UK destinations and the business behind travel and tourism. In year two, you will specialise in cabin crew and have the opportunity to visit an airline training centre to experience real cabin crew training. You will also learn the basic background knowledge, skills and understanding of cabin crew in our own onsite aircraft cabin ‘Stamford Airways’.

You will have the opportunity to take a part in a range of visits to gain a real insight of UK and European tourism industries. Previous trips have included Disney Paris, Harry Potter World, Butlins and The William Cecil Hotel. You will also gain top tips from guest lecturers from The George Hotel, Stamford and Thomas Cook’s Overseas Team.

This course is approximately 60% theory and 40% practical.

You will study the following units:

  • The World of Travel and Tourism.
  • Global Destinations
  • Managing the Customer Experience
  • Travel and Tourism Enterprises
  • Researching Current Issues in Travel and Tourism
  • The UK as a Tourist Destination
  • Business Operations in Travel and Tourism

There are optional units which include the Cruise industry, Visitor Attractions, Working Overseas, Events and Conferences, and Work Experience.

You will learn through practical demonstrations, presentations, group work and individual tasks. There will also be some exam based units. You will also experience a range of industry and educational visits to broaden your knowledge of the travel and tourism industry.

On the successful completion of this course you can progress to university or job roles such as an Overseas Resort Representative, Travel Agent or Airline Cabin Crew.

You will be assessed through internally assessed assignments and externally assessed tasks and written exams. You can utilise your portfolio to take to University or to take to job interviews to show case your abilities. There will also be practical tasks, group work and individual presentations.

All students will be required to buy a uniform for Cabin Crew. They will also be expected to participate in some of the educational visits which you will be required to fund themselves (approx. cost for visits is £150 per year with the option of an overseas visit in year two at an additional cost)

5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above including English and maths.
