This apprenticeship has two pathways to enable you to become either a Site Carpenter or Architectural Joiner. As a Site Carpenter or Architectural Joiner. As a site Carpenter you could work on a building site, or in domestic and commercial premises, preparing and fixing building components, from the initial erection of a new building, through to the installation of all neccesary fixtures and fittings, as well as a range of repair and maintenance activities. As an Architectural Joiner you could be employed in a worshop producing timber-based building components and other architectural products.

This course is approximately 80% work and 20% training.

You will be employed as an apprentice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a workplace mentor or supervisor who will be responcible for your training and welfare at work. You will attend college for workshop sessions as required. An assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress against standards and set SMART objectives.

As a fully competent Site Carpenter or Architectural Joiner, you’ll meet the requirements of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) ‘Skilled Worker’ standard. You can also progress to a Carpentry and Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3.

Individual employers set their own entry requirements. However, you will need to pass an initial aptitude test and be prepared to work towards achieving Functional Skills Level 1
