This apprenticeship has been designed to provide you with the training and development to become a qualified Bricklayer. You will lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures, for example chimney stacks. You may also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects, working on sites such as: large commercial developments, new builds in housing, alterations, extensions and restorations.

This course is approximately 80% work and 20% training.

 

You will be employed as an apprentice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a workplace mentor or supervisor who will be responcible for your training and welfare at work. You will attend college for workshop sessions as required. An assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress against standards and set SMART objectives.

As a fully competent Bricklayer you will meet th erequirements to gain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card at the appropriate level, and be entitled to join the Federation of Master Builders’ continuous professional development (CPD) scheme for individual tradespeople.

Individual employers set their own entry requirements. However, you will need to pass an initial aptitude test and be prepared to work towards achieving Functional Skills Level 1
