This Pre-Access course is designed to provide mature students with the chance to achieve the Level 2 qualifications they need to progress to the Access to Higher Education Diploma or other Level 3 courses. You will study units such as a careers module, which will enable you to explore different career opportunities and different subject pathways including health, business, teaching and social sciences (subject to demand). You’ll also undertake GCSE Functional Skills maths and English to aid your progression to university.

  • GCSE Human biology if you wish to progress on to the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Professions) pathway

You will learn through a variety of methods including theory and practice, portfolio development and assignments, individual presentations and group work. You will develop the skills you need for higher level study and you will develop practical science skills within the health pathway. You will be required to complete work outside of class time.

Successful completion of this course will provide you with the qualifications required to enrol on to a Level 3 Access to Higher Education course atUniversity Centre Stamford, including Access to Business, Health Professions, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Teaching.

To support your progression, you will have the opportunity to attend various careers events at local universities.

You will need to complete a portfolio of assignments, which are externally moderated by Aim Awards. You will also undertake exams for your GCSE subjects and a combination of tests, coursework and presentations for the AIM Certificate. You will also undertake practicals in science modules.

You will have access to various study facilities including a recently refurbished Library where you’ll have access to books, journals and computers. You will also have tutorial and study support throughout your course to assist you with your studies.

No formal qualifications are required however you must be able to demonstrate life experience and the commitment to progress your career.
