This course is designed to develop your practical skills and theoretical knowledge of a range of sport disciplines for progression into the Sport industry or further study at university. You will study the principles of anatomy and physiology in sport, fitness training, programming and fitness testing, and have the opportunity to select optional units including sports coaching or sports nutrition.

You will gain top tips from guest speakers and have the chance to go on trips to real workplaces within the industry such as St Georges Park and The King Power Stadium, the home of the 2016 Premier League Champions Leicester City. Other trips and visits may include, English Institute of Sport, Olympic Stadium, Birmingham Futsal Arena and the opportunity for a residential Skiing Trip.

This course is approximately 20% theory and 80% practical.

You will study the following units:

• Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport

• The Physiology of Fitness

• Assessing Risk in Sport

• Fitness Training and Programming

• Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise

• Sports Coaching

• Practical Team Sport

• Exercise, Health and Lifestyle

• Work Experience

• Sports Nutrition

You will learn through a combination of group work, team building, peer assessment, individual tasks, power point presentations and methods of online learning. The course is designed so that you can utilise theory in your practical sessions.

Following successful completion of this course you can progress on to study the HND in Sports and Excersise Science at New College Stamford, or other sport degrees at University. You could also progress in to careers in Sports Coaching, PE Teaching, Physiotherapy, Sports Journalism and Sports Therapy.

You will be assessed mainly through course work including presentations, reports and ipad assignments which are uploaded online. Two units will be assessed by exams.

You will need to provide £150.00 towards uniform, this will also cover your trips for the year.

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and maths at grades C/4 or above.
