Harry Byton (19) from Deepings School stood out in front of 1700 other aspiring paramedics to secure himself a fully-funded place to study Paramedic Science at Northampton University.
Harry said “During my course I was able to shadow a paramedic on a 12 hour shift that gave me the experience I needed to stand out with my university application.”
The experience Harry gained whist at college meant he not only secured himself a place on the course but also an additional £1000 bursary for high achievers, paid fees and the opportunity to do his Blue Light License whilst on the course.
He said, “Lecturers are very supportive and because they are from industry, any question you have they can answer.”
The advice Harry gave to anyone thinking about a career in the NHS or other careers within the Health and Social Care Industry is to gain as much experience as possible whilst you can.
All students undertake at least 200 hours of work experience, which gives them the specialist experience they need to stand out in such a competitive industry – just like Harry did!
