Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will I have to pay for my course?

A. All full-time courses for under 19s are FREE!
If you are over 19 and not in receipt of a means tested benefit you may have to pay a contribution towards the cost of your course. Our Initial Advice and Guidance team will be able to talk to you about this.

Q. Is there any financial help available to me whilst I'm studying at College?

A. Being a student is fun... but having no money isn't!
With the Education Maintenance Allowance (ema) you actually get paid to come to College! This is a weekly payment of up to £30 to help towards study and travel costs, if you make 100% attendance.

The money goes straight to your bank account and can be spent on books, equipment and transport - you could even get a bonus of £100 if you stay on your course and make good progress with your learning!
The ema isn't the only financial support you can get at New College Stamford. We've got specialist staff who are committed to helping you out with any money issues that are troubling you. They will give you advice and guidance on a range of funds available to our learners, especially those whose parents are on low income or in receipt of benefits. We also have funds that can help towards childcare and other costs.

To help you get the most out of your time at College we encourage you to consider doing additional Beyond the Classroom activities that you are interested in, or that may help you in your future. These activities could include qualifications such as first aid or options such as Duke of Edinburgh or community volunteer work.
