Hard work pays off for Fashion Students
Students on the National Diploma Fashion and Clothing (Year 1) have completed a challenge to create a skirt suitable for a Hip Hop crew to wear. The group were set the task by Jem and Claire of Jems Hip Hop and were asked to base the garment on the theme of decay.
Both Claire and Gem judged the creations on Wednesday 28 Feb. They were impressed with the high standard of work and the detail in the skirts, as well as the supporting sketch books.
The group’s tutors, Rachael Cooper and Ellie Marshall, were also extremely pleased with the results, "A huge a mount of effort has gone into each skirt, not to mention many metres of tutu netting," said Rachel. "We can't wait to see them all modelled in Fashion Week in May. Jem and Claire have asked for additional skirts to be made for their dance troop which really shows how impressed they were with the work."
Danya Breen was awarded first place, Amy Lees second and Gina Dixon third, although it was a tough decision and the judges had lots of positive feedback for all of the designers.
All of the skirts will be modelled as part of the New College Stamford Fashion Show in May and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
