New College Stamford Hospitality students proved once again that they have the recipe for success after they won the “Freshdrop Lincolnshire Student Chef Challenge 2009” at Boston College this week. Jonathon Lee and Aaron Johns who are studying for a level 2 Hospitality qualification faced some stiff competition against the very best hospitality and catering students from across the county, many of whom were studying for the higher level 3 qualification.
In an event that combined the stress of Hell’s Kitchen with the creativity of Master chef the students were required to write and prepare a two course menu and then cook 2 portions of each dish all within just 90 minutes. Their winning two course menu consisted of Baked Supreme of Chicken stuffed with herb mousse, fondant potatoes and spiced vegetables in pastry and a strawberry and rhubarb crumble, confit of rhubarb and crème fraiche. The menu earned the college a cash prize from event sponsors “Freshdrop” and the title of Lincolnshire County Young Master Chef 2009. Proud tutor Phil Matthews said; “Jonathon and Aaron did remarkably well as the ingredients were only disclosed to them just 30 minutes before starting their challenge. We will use the money to invest in new equipment to allow more students to enjoy similar success.” Their achievement was even more pronounced considering that both students were last minute entrants due to the unforeseen withdrawal of the original competitors. |
