Sisters Alex and Lizzie Snodgrass, and Laura and Esme Dodwell represented New College Stamford and the region at the AoC Sport National Championships 2017, with the Snodgrass sisters showcasing their talent in cross country and the Dodwell’s in hockey.

The two groups of sisters from New College Stamford fought off stiff competition from colleges across the East Midlands to represent the region at the National Finals, which took place at the University of Nottingham and surrounding facilities on the 21st – 23rd April.

The AoC Sport National Championships saw the team competing against athletes from colleges across England and Wales. As well as individual glory, teams aimed to accumulate points for their region and win the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.

Elder sister Alex qualified for the second year running and raced against her younger sister Lizzie.  “It will be exciting for us racing together.  We both have different tactics so it will be fun to see who comes out on top.   It’s a great honour to represent the region and the College.” AoC Sport Managing Director, Marcus Kingwell, said: “We are really excited about this year’s National Championships, which will be hosted at state-of-the-art facilities in Nottingham.”

“Ours will be the first major Multi-Sports event to take place at the David Ross Sports Village, and we believe the standard of the facilities will provide students with an incredible experience. We could even see a future Olympic champion in action at the Championships.”

The AoC Sport National Championships are now in their 39th year and remain the largest student sporting event in the UK, with nearly 1,800 students taking part last year. Colleges competed in 13 different sports over a three-day period, which took place in some of the best facilities in the country.
