Last week our talented students were given the opportunity to recreate the popular television programme ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ with the Royal Navy.
They were put into small teams and given a random selection of the same items and had to create a dish with the ingredients. The winning team, which included Niall Holland, Alex Berridge, Bryony Webber, Ewan Peacock, Noemi Terebesi, who are a mixture of our Level 1, 2 and 3 students created a main and dessert which consisted of chicken ballotine, stuffed with a garlic and herb butter, creamed mash with braised leeks and honey roasted carrots with a mushroom sauce and a rich chocolate mousse with candid orange and spun sugar – very impressive!
Working with the Navy is a great opportunity to explore job opportunities in Catering that students may not have considered. Petty Officer Wayne Claridge explained to the students that being a Chef in the Royal Navy is an extremely important role, and catering is at the very heart of the service, without food you wouldn’t have a Navy and you wouldn’t have a crew!
