Budding entrepreneurs in the College’s Skills for Work and Living department turned their green fingers in to a flourishing business as part of Careers Week.

The students self-penned their ‘Budding Gardeners’ business and developed skills in purchasing, budgeting, customer service, selling and working as a team in preparation for future employment in the horticulture industry.

Their objective was two-fold. One to purchase, make and sell hanging baskets, and the second, to visit a local horticulture wholesaler and purchase a variety of plants and garden items to sell in ‘Love Stamford’ a shop in Stamford town centre.

Both enterprising activities were extremely successful, and in addition students were able to nurture essential business competences including meeting order demands, understanding profit lines, stock taking, following relevant health and safety rules and developing fine and gross motor skills.
