At New College Stamford we take the views and opinions of our students very seriously. We see the benefit of allowing our learners to have an opportunity to shape the organisation in which they choose to study. Gathering feedback from our students is one of the most effective ways we can improve the College for all!
When you enrol at the College all of our students automatically become part of the Student Union. Every year an Executive Committee is elected by the entire student body to act on behalf of, and with other students in the College representation forums; such as the Student Council.
It is not all business though as the Student Union Executive Committee are also responsible for the fun stuff that goes on at College as well! Social events, trips and charity fundraising all fall under the Student Union remit so if you decide to run in the elections to become part of the Committee or not, there’s never a dull moment at New College Stamford! The Student Union Committee also manage their own budget to spend on benefitting everyone who studies at the College.
The Student Union is also affiliated with the NUS (National Union of Students) which provides Student Unions across the country with the support and training they need to become more effective at functioning on behalf of all students. This also means that all of our students are eligible to purchase the famous NUS discount card, and benefit from a HUGE range of discounts available!
LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.
At New College Stamford we support our LGBT+ students in a variety of ways; we provide one to one welfare support, non-gendered toilets and run a weekly LGBT+ group on a Monday Lunch that aims to:

Are you a Young Carer?
At New College Stamford we believe that all young people have the right to an education, regardless of what is happening at home.
We know that the move from school to College can be challenging for many students as well as exciting. However, we recognise that young carers face different issues and want different levels of support. The Student Services Team includes people who are here to help and support with this move to College.
Guided by you, we can work with your Student Advisor and your lecturers to ensure that they are sensitive to your needs. You can access a range of support from our Young Carers Champion (our Student Engagement and Liaison Officer) such as our Termly Young Carers drop-ins at College, financial support and the opportunity to access further support from local carer’s agencies.
At New College Stamford, we work closely with colleagues from Lincs Carers Partnership, Carers FIRST and Carers Trust Peterborough to ensure that we understand the needs of young adult carers. As a result of our continuous commitment in the provision of support to Young Carers at New College Stamford, we have been awarded the Lincolnshire Carers Quality Award which aims to promote a variety of ways we can identify, engage, respect and support our young carers in College.
