Who is it for?

If you want to develop your mathematical ability, this course extends your knowledge of topics studied in mathematics through; mathematical argument and language, mathematical problem solving and mathematical modelling. It is also a preferred subject for those wishing to progress to degrees in mathematics, physics and engineering.

What is covered?

The A Level Further Mathematics can be combined with A Level Mathematics for those learners whose plans for further study and employment have significant mathematical demands.

  • 2 x 2 matrices
  • Summation Proof of series
  • Complex numbers and parabolas
  • 1st and 2nd differential equations
  • Further complex numbers
  • Modulus of graphical functions
  • Approximations using Taylor's and Maclaurin's Series
  • Projectile Motion
  • Centre of Gravity
  • Momentum and Energy and Moments

5 GCSEs at grade 5/C or above including English and maths, plus grade 66/BB in combined science, or a grade 6/B in a single science and a grade 7/A in maths. Students will require a Casio fx991 EX or fx991 CW calculator for this course.
