This qualification is designed for learners who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of supporting adults living with cancer and can be used for those who work in healthcare or for individuals providing informal care.
One in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. For many individuals, diagnosis can be a daunting and overwhelming time. Being able to access the right levels of care and services provides valuable support when people need it most.
As cancer treatments are improved and more people survive cancer, an awareness of the impact of living with cancer long-term and knowledge of how to support individuals is vital for anyone caring for someone with cancer.
This short course is great CPD for those working in health and social care, but is also suitable for those who care for someone living with cancer.
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Cancer Support, learners are required to successfully complete 4 units:
You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.
You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.
We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish. They are designed for independent study, and you do not have to attend any sessions. However, your assigned assessors and the Distance Learning team will provide you with support and guidance throughout your course.
To ensure that you keep on track and meet your deadlines, it is suggested that you undertake at least 4-6 hours study per week. You will complete online assessments at regular intervals and the due dates for submission of your work are shown on the platform.
Your allocated assessor will mark your assessments and provide you with feedback and support. It is important that you demonstrate to your assessor that you have understood the question and applied your knowledge to the answers.
If your assessor feels you need to add more detail, they will support you with feedback and you will be able to add to your original answer and resubmit your work.
Studying at College helped me to become more independent, as well as giving me the practical writing skills I needed to prepare for university study. I feel more than ready to start my Biomedical Sciences Degree at Oxford Brookes University.
