Who is it for?

The purpose of this qualification is to give learners currently working in or intending to work in adult health and social care an awareness of a range of common health conditions.

Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson’s disease, there are approximately 152,000 strokes in the UK every year (more than one every five minutes), and one in six of the UK population have some form of hearing loss.

These health conditions, along with others such as arthritis and dementia, affect a substantial proportion of the population. A good understanding of common health conditions is essential in any care environment.

What is covered?

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions, learners are required to successfully complete 6 units:

  • Unit 01 Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions
  • Unit 02 Introductory awareness of sensory loss
  • Unit 03 Stroke awareness
  • Unit 04 Dementia awareness
  • Unit 05 Arthritis awareness
  • Unit 06 Parkinson's disease awareness

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.

You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.

We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
