Who is it for?

End of life care provides support for people approaching death and enables them to live their lives as well as possible until they die. The Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care looks at the knowledge and understanding of the key principles of caring for patients approaching the end of their lives in a wide range of care settings, including hospices, care homes, care in the community and primary care. The qualification focuses on the common questions and themes in end of life care. It also provides learners with an understanding of how to support a person’s familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs.

What is covered?

To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care, learners must successfully complete 5 mandatory units.

  • Unit 01 Understanding end of life care
  • Unit 02 Communication during end of life care
  • Unit 03 Assessment and care planning in end of life care
  • Unit 04 Person-centred approaches to end of life care
  • Unit 05 Care during the final hours of life and bereavement care

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.

You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.

We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
