Doug commenced his career as a seafarer undertaking Merchant Navy Training Board marine engineer cadet training scheme. On completion Doug served as a marine engineer officer on merchant ships trading worldwide on all major shipping routes.
On moving to shore-based employment in the National Health Service he held a number of senior engineering appointments at Guy’s Hospital London. Followed by NHS Board level Director of Estates and Facilities appointments at major acute NHS Hospital Foundation Trust’s. Doug also gained major construction and operational experience of new build acute hospitals with Lend Lease Construction Management as Technical Director over a six-year period.
He has interests in project and organisation finance, also in construction law and alternative dispute resolution procedure. Doug holds master’s degrees in engineering, law, strategic financial management, and is a Chartered Engineer. He was awarded Fellowship of the City & Guilds London Institute for outstanding professional achievement in 2002. A Freeman of the City of London, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights and the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators of the City of London.
Doug has a great interest in education and has been visiting lecturer at Cranfield University Centre for Propulsion Engineering for the last fourteen years.
