Course overview

Experiment using both studio and darkroom techniques and develop your photographs into creative and diverse imagery for print. Create images and manipulate them into a wide range of advertising and promotional materials, strengthening your ability to use different drawing, visualising, illustrating, media and computer design programmes. You will have access to the latest Adobe Suite software to provide you with the skills you need to enter this exciting industry. You will study Photography units in:

  • Typography
  • Illustration
  • Logo design
  • Colour and media
  • Layout and packaging
  • Advertising and promotion

You will study Graphics units in:

  • Portraiture
  • Landscape photography
  • Commercial photography
  • Still Life photography
  • Documentary photography
  • Experimental imagery
  • Editorial photography
  • Photographic installation
  • The Photographic process

This course is approximately 60% exam and 40% coursework.

 

What Does The Programme Include

You will learn and practise new skills in both photography and graphic design in creative, digital and studio workshops. To inspire your artistic development, you will have the opportunity to visit exhibitions, museums and galleries throughout the course. Along the way you will develop your own sketchbook, recording your ideas and inspiration.

Entry Requirements

The standard requirements for A Levels is 5 GCSEs at Grade 5/​C or above as a minimum for humanities subjects and 6/​B in maths for all science subjects.

Each A Level has its own additional entry requirement, please see below:

Grade 6/​B or above in an art based subject plus a portfolio of an art discipline.

Need to re-sit? No problem. If you don’t achieve a Grade 4/​C in GCSE maths or English, you’ll resit the exams with us and we’ll help you prepare.

To ensure you are fully prepared for the course there is a kit provided at a cost of £40 payable in September. Please contact the college directly to find out more information.
