Practical Vs Theory
Course overview
You will study both practical and theoretical elements of beauty therapy and will become proficient in performing a diverse range of treatments alongside giving expert aftercare advice and promoting retail products in our professional beauty therapy environment. You will be taught by highly experienced tutors who have a wealth of industry experience.
What Does The Programme Include
You will complete projects/assignments and homework tasks to broaden your knowledge and understanding in all aspects of Beauty Therapy.
Initially you will develop your practical skills by practicing treatments on other therapists within your group. You will be expected to receive all treatments whilst you are learning and developing new skills.
Eventually you will progress onto public salon sessions whereby you will be performing a variety of professional treatments on the general public within a real salon environment, preparing you for Level 3 beauty and furthermore university or industry.
Additional beauty training is available to you, depending on the trends in industry for the year. E.g Gel polish or ear piercing etc.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grades 3/D or above, including English, maths and science, or a relevant Level 1 qualification. <?xml:namespace prefix = “o” ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />
We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.
One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as :
- Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑subject to availability
- Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy / too hard ‑subject to availability
- Incorporating English and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t achieve grade 4.
- One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well
How The Course Will Be Assessed
Practical assessments will be completed throughout your course as you provide treatments to clients and produce a portfolio of evidence. You will also be assessed through several external exams whilst compiling a treatment portfolio.
Additional Information
Candidates wishing to pursue a career in this industry should be of smart appearance, reliable, articulate and of a caring nature with good communications skills. You will be required to purchase a beauty uniform and a kit. We will notify you about the contents and the suppliers of both the kit and uniform prior to enrolment. It is imperative that you plan ahead as you will be expected to source your own clients to enable you to complete your practical assessments.
Potential Future Career
On successful completion of this course, you have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 subject to performance criteria and a successful interview or alternatively you could progress within the industry.

Course Trips
You will have the opportunity to take part in a number of trips, activities and competitons throughout the year. Previous trips and visits include: Ragdale Hall (Student of Excellence), Beauty UK, Steiner Cruise Ships Careers Event, and a number of local employer masterclasses. You will also showcase your new skills in our annual fashion show. One weeks work experience is a mandatory element of this qualification, you are expected to secure your own placement within the first four weeks of the course.
