Practical Vs Theory


Course overview

Advance your practical skills and therapeutic knowledge for a successful career in the beauty industry. You will gain industry standard skills working within a professional commercial environment. You will be studying a diverse range of treatments to include both holistic and electrical therapies alongside current trends in industry.


What Does The Programme Include

You will complete projects/​assignments and homework tasks will broaden your knowledge and understanding in all aspects of beauty therapy. Initally you will develop your practical skills by practicing treatments on each other before progressing to commerical clients.

You will be expected to recieve all treatments whilst you are learning and developing new skills, ultimately preparing you for industry or university in this field.

Entry Requirements

You will require Beauty Therapy Level 2, good communication skills, dedication, commitment and reliability. You must demonstrate a professional appearance and a mature attitude to take responsibility for your own learning. 

Need to re-sit? No problem. If you don’t achieve a Grade 4/​C in GCSE maths or English, you’ll resit the exams with us and you will be supported whilst studying your chosen course.

Worried about your grades?

Whatever your results, we want to assure you that extenuating circumstances will be considered should you not have the grades indicated above. 

We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.

One of the ways we do this is through a very effective 6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):

  • Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks
  • Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy /​too hard
  • Incorporating English and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t meet the grades you need
  • One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

How The Course Will Be Assessed

Practical assessments will be completed throughout your course as you provide treatments to clients and produce a portfolio of evidence. You will also be continually assessed through ongoing assignments and numerous external exams.

Additional Information

You will be required to participate in work experience throughout your course, you will be required to be at your placement one day a week for the academic year.

Potential Future Career

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the required skills to enable you to progress onto your chosen career path within this industry. 

You could also further your studies with a Level 4 Qualification in:

  • Health and Safety in the Salon
  • Client Care and Consultation
  • Swedish Massage Therapy
  • Indian Head Treatment
  • Hot Stone Therapy
  • Aromatherapy
  • Manual and Spray Tanning
  • Gel Polish Techniques
  • Anatomy and Physiology for the face and body systems
  • Facial Electrical Treatments
  • Additional Beauty Training — depending on the trends in the industry e.g. Threading and introduction to sports therapy massage

All of the above units are subject to change.

Course Trips

You will have the opportunity to take part in a number of trips, activities and competitions throughout the year. Previous trips and visits include: Ragdale Hall (Student of Excellence), Beauty UK, Steiner Cruise Ships Careers Events, and a number of local employer masterclasses.
