Course overview

The qualification would be useful for anyone who would like to develop their use of counselling skills for use in either work or in a personal capacity. You may wish to progress towards further qualifications, or to study this programme in order to complement other programmes (e.g. health and social care; children’s care, learning and development; voluntary and community work).

This qualification aims to:

  • Introduce you to the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work, and some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills.

The objectives of this qualification are to help you to:

  • develop counselling skills
  • understand the different approaches involved in the use of counselling skills
  • appreciate the importance of self-development

This qualification is great for anyone interested in a career in counselling, support workers, customer service staff and new managers/​team leaders. You will gain an awareness of a range of counselling skills and how to use them through interactive practical exercises.

The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is designed to provide education and training for those who may use counselling skills when working with others. This can be in any field which involves interacting with other people – from customer services, nurses to managers. It is useful for a wide variety of people. 

It gives opportunities for those who may use counselling skills when working with others to achieve a nationally-recognised, Level 2, vocationally-specific qualification. It will also help you to enter employment in fields working with people or to progress to further vocational qualifications such as the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory. The course will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills you need as an introduction to counselling skills. It gives you opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

This qualification does not qualify learners to practice as a counsellor.

What Does The Programme Include

You will learn through interactive lessons and assignments using innovative, up to date practices to enable you to gain an awareness of counselling skills and how to use them.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, simply an interest in the subject.

How The Course Will Be Assessed

You will be assessed through classroom activities, assignments and personal journal/​diary.

Fees, Finance & Funding

The full fee for this course is £811.

However you may be eligible to pay a reduced fee if:

You already hold a Level 2 qualification already (5 GCSEs A*/9 to C/​4 or a qualification flagged as a full Level 2), then the course fee would be £362.

You already hold a Level 2 qualification already (5 GCSEs A*/9 to C/​4 or a qualification flagged as a full Level 2), and you are unemployed, the course fees are waived completely and there are no fees to pay. Evidence would need to be provided. £0.
