Course overview

This course will develop your professional and self-reflection skills to meet the demands of employers in the computing sector, and allow you to adapt to a constantly changing world. You will gain a nationally recognised, vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in computing and systems development, whilst ensuring you are prepared for the workplace.

What Does The Programme Include

You will learn through a combination of independent and group activities including lectures, seminars, practical workshops, and demonstrations, tutorials, trips, visits and work-related experiences.

Entry Requirements

• 96 UCAS points typically from A Levels or Level 3 Diploma in Computing or IT, although students from other subject specialisms are encouraged to apply

• Mature students who may not have formal qualifications are encouraged to apply for an interview where you will be considered on your experience, enthusiasm and commitment

How The Course Will Be Assessed

A range of assessment methods will be used including reports, presentations, and research projects.

Fees, Finance & Funding

£6,500 per year (part-time £3,250). Some travel costs will be required for external visits. This is typically around £100.

Potential Future Career

Successful completion of this course will provide you with the qualifications required to top-up’ to a full Bachelor’s Degree at university in just one year. Acceptance on to these courses is at the discretion of the institution offering the top-up.

The HND is a specialist vocational programme with a strong work-related emphasis. You could gain employment in the computing industry in roles such as a Systems Analyst, Data Designer, Database Administrator, IT Project Manager, IT Support Technician or Web Designer.

Work-based Learning

You will undertake live assignments for real clients. There is an extensive tutorial pathway to improve employability and career options.

You will also have the opportunity to meet guest speakers from industry including consultants within the field of web design, database and security. Please note that guest speakers may differ year-on-year. You will also complete one weeks work experience in the second year.

Resources

You will be taught in a dedicated IT suite with high specification computers running the latest industry standard software including Adobe Creative Cloud. You will also have access to high-speed internet on these systems. Free Wi-Fi is available to all students.

Throughout your course you will use the Google Suite for Education for lesson resources, assignments and group collaboration.

You will also have access to an Academic Support Tutor to assist you with your studies and careers advisors to help you with your future employment.
