Course overview

This qualification is for those who wish to achieve a level 1 creative subject qualification in preparation for future study. This qualification is not designed to lead directly to employment but will maximise opportunities for your progression to Level 2 qualifications in a related subject, when combined with English and maths.

What Does The Programme Include

The level 1 creative media course starts with a 2D graphic design based assignment which includes the first four units of the qualification. This will teach you the fundamentals of graphic design, layout, typography and colour theory. Then it’s followed by a 3D assignment which will teach you the different perspective drawing techniques and will also involve using 3D creative software. Then to finish the formative assignment we cover a time based medium assignment which can be animation or film, this tends to change each year. After the formative assignment the course is finished with a FMP (final major project) which is a students own choice project but it must incorporate your ability and strength in creativity. The course is mixed with workshops in software and formative assessment to provide learners with guidance and support on the course.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs at grades 2/E or above including English or maths or equivalent. You will also need to bring a portfolio of work to your interview.

Worried about your grades?

Whatever your results, we want to assure you that extenuating circumstances will be considered should you not have the grades indicated above.

We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.
