Course overview
This qualification is for those who wish to achieve a level 1 media qualification in preparation for future study. This qualification is not designed to lead directly to employment but will maximise opportunities for your progression to Level 2 qualifications in a related subject, when combined with English and maths.
What Does The Programme Include
The course contains a graphic design assignment which focuses on typography and illustration, one 3D assignment using traditional materials which is linked with your first assignment, and an animation assignment which includes exploration into the principles of animation. You will also complete a final major project which results in your final grade for the course.
Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs at grades 2/E or above including English or maths or equivalent. You will also need to bring a portfolio of work to your interview.

Whatever your results, we want to assure you that extenuating circumstances will be considered should you not have the grades indicated above.
We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.
One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):
- Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks
- Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy /too hard
- Incorporating English and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t meet the grades you need
- One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

How The Course Will Be Assessed
You will be assessed via assignments that involve face to face feedback and interim assignments. A final assessment will take place after the hand in date of each assignment and a final overall assessment is done based on your performance at the end of the year.
Potential Future Career
On successful completion of this course, with a Merit grade or above, you could progress on to Creative Media Production and Technology Level 2.
