Course overview

Aimed at exit­ing prac­tis­ing elec­tri­cians: The pur­pose of this qual­i­fi­ca­tion is to install domes­tic and small com­mer­cial elec­tric vehi­cle charg­ing units. The qual­i­fi­ca­tion cen­tres around being able to know the key require­ments relat­ing to elec­tric vehi­cle charg­ing equip­ment, includ­ing types of equip­ment. It includes how to design and instal­la­tion, test, com­mis­sion and main­tain installations.

Entry Require­ments

This course is intend­ed for prac­tic­ing elec­tri­cians as part of the assess­ment for this qual­i­fi­ca­tion, learn­ers must hold one of the following:

For indi­vid­ual hold­ing old­er lega­cy qual­i­fi­ca­tions a cur­rent ECS instal­la­tion Gold Card will be accepted.

  • 2357 Lev­el 3 NVQ Diplo­ma in Installing Elec­trotech­ni­cal Sys­tems and Equip­ment (Build­ing, Struc­tures and the Environment) 
  • 2357 Lev­el 3 NVQ Diplo­ma in Elec­trotech­ni­cal Ser­vices (Elec­tri­cal Maintenance) 
  • 5357 Lev­el 3 Elec­trotech­ni­cal qualification
  • 2356 Lev­el 3 NVQ in Elec­trotech­ni­cal Ser­vices (Expe­ri­enced work­er route) 
  • 2346 Lev­el 3Electro Tech­ni­cal Expe­ri­enced Work­er Route.

Oth­er Award­ing Organ­i­sa­tions equiv­a­lences will also be accept­able. or ECS Gold Card, JIB Elec­tri­cian or Approved Elec­tri­cian Card.

The qual­i­fi­ca­tions above must have been achieved no more than 5 years pri­or to start­ing this qual­i­fi­ca­tion or there must be evi­dence the can­di­date has remained cur­rent by com­plet­ing rel­e­vant CPD such as a City and Guilds 2382 or equivalent.

How The Course Will Be Assessed

Online evolve test, marked auto­mat­i­cal­ly 45 mins / 28 ques­tions – Assign­ment – short answer test sce­nario based – Exter­nal­ly set by City and Guilds and marked by the cen­tre, 1.5 hours long.

Course fee: £480

You will be required to pur­chase your own safe­ty equip­ment (boots and over­alls) and Elec­tri­cians On-site Guide book pri­or to start­ing the course. Details on where top­ur­chase these along with costs will be giv­en to you.

Course Con­tent

  • Statu­to­ry and non- statu­to­ry doc­u­ments for selec­tion, instal­la­tion and com­mis­sion­ing and EVC equipment.
  • Traf­fic man­age­ment orders sit­u­a­tion identification.
  • Suit­abil­i­ty of dif­fer­ent modes of charg­ing equip­ment and connections 
  • Design an instal­la­tion, includ­ing assess­ment of loca­tion, and meth­ods for select­ing suit­able cable.
  • Sys­tem earth­ing and sup­ply arrangements 
  • Risk asso­ci­at­ed with instal­la­tion, includ­ing PEN/CNE con­duc­tor faults, elec­tric shocks.
  • Require­ments for inspec­tion, test­ing, com­mis­sion­ing and han­dover of EVC equip­ment and circuits.
  • Elec­tri­cal ener­gy stor­age systems.
