Practical Vs Theory
Course overview
Gain an introduction to the electrical industry and develop the practical skills necessary to install electrical equipment to an industry standard. You will learn the basics about different types of installation electrical installation, wiring and termination, fabrication techniques for electrical installations, and electrical science and technology.
What Does The Programme Include
You will complete work books and assignments using online resources. You will also take part in a Construction work placement which will give you on-site experience alongside opportunities to complete relevant community projects.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grades 3/D or above including English and maths, or Construction Operations Diploma Level 1.

One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):
· Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑subject to availability
· Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy / too hard, subject to availability
· One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

How The Course Will Be Assessed
You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments and written, short answer question papers.
Additional Information
You will require a warehouse coat, work trousers and laced safety footwear, which can be purchased on our website, along with reference books and stationery. You will be sent a full list of materials and equipment prior to enrolment.
Potential Future Career
On successful completion of this course you could progress to study the Electrical Installation Technical Certificate Level 2 or to job roles such as an Installation or Maintenance Electrician Apprentice.
Course Content
You will study the following units:
- Structure of the construction industry
- Fundamental safe working practices
- Environmental and sustainability measures in a domestic dwelling.
- Site preparation for working in the construction industry
- Electrical installation wiring and terminations
- Fabrication techniques for electrical installation.
- Electrical science and technology
