Course overview

Gas engineering involves the safe installation, commission, decommission and the ongoing service and repair of gas appliances in either a domestic or non-domestic setting. Appliances can include, but are not limited to, a range of work categories such as central heating boilers, unvented hot water storage, ducted air heaters, cookers, space heaters, meters, alternative fuel, boosters, testing and purging for industrial pipework. 

 

What Does The Programme Include

You will be employed as an apprentice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a workplace mentor or supervisor who will be responsible for your training and welfare at work. You will attend the Gas Centre at college for one day a week.

Entry Requirements

Individual employers set their own entry requirements. However, you will typically require 5 GCSEs at grades 4/?C or above, preferable including English, maths and science. 

You may also be required to undertake a recognised background check, equivalent to Criminal Record Bureau/​Disclosure and Barring Service (CRB/​DBS).

How The Course Will Be Assessed

An assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress against standards and set SMART objectives.

Potential Future Career

In achieving a pass or a distinction in this apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech)
