Practical Vs Theory
Course overview
Gain an introduction to hairdressing whilst working in our fully-equipped salons. You will study basic hairdressing techniques including: how to style women’s and men’s hair, shampoo and conditioning, consultation and customer service.
What Does The Programme Include
You will learn through practical demonstrations and practise what you have learnt on real, paying clients in our commercial salon.
Entry Requirements
There are no GCSE/formal entry requirements for this course. We will however review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.<?xml:namespace prefix = “o” ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />
One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):
- Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑subject to availability
- Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy / too hard — subject to availability
- Enrolling you on a GCSE or Functional Skills maths and English programme alongside you main course
- One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

How The Course Will Be Assessed
You will be assessed through practical observations, online tests and questions. You will also complete assignments to develop your theory knowledge.
Potential Future Career
After successful completion of this course, you could progress onto the Hairdressing Diploma Level 2 or could consider a Hair Professional Apprenticeship.

- Styling and dressing hair
- Customer service
- Consultation
- Shampooing and conditioning
- Health and Safety
- Assist with colouring

There maybe opportunities to visit Salon International at London’s Excel where you can check out the latest developments, get your hands-on new products and see live demonstrations.
You may also have the chance to get involved in competitions such as the AHT (Association of Hairdressers & Therapists) Awards where the College have an enviable reputation for success, regularly achieving top places in the national finals across multiple categories.
