Course overview

This qualification is to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce. This qualification confirms competence in these areas for roles such as:

  • Care assistants/​support workers/​key workers in residential settings
  • Healthcare assistants/​support workers in community and primary care environments
  • Healthcare assistants/​support workers in acute health environments
  • Care assistants/​support workers/​key workers in domiciliary services
  • Care assistants/​support workers/​key workers in day services
  • Support workers in supported living projects
  • Community-based care assistants/​support workers/​key workers, including those working in specialist areas eg dementia, learning disabilities
  • Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families

 

What Does The Programme Include

There will be a combination of assessment methods for this qualification which meets competence units. Direct observation of candiates performance by a qualified occupationally competent assessor and the assessor’s judgement on testimony from an expert witness testimony are the main methods of assessment and main source of evidence. The evidence must at all times reflect the policies and procedures of the workplace as informed by current legislation, the relevant service standards and codes of practice for the sector.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal qualification required to access this course, however you will need to be employed in a relevant role with in the Health and Social Care sector.

Additional Information

In addition to direct observations, you will need to complete and pass a number of written assignments to achieve this qualification.

Potential Future Career

On successful completion you can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which you work.

Course Content

You will choose from either the Generic Pathway or Dementia Pathway.

The mandatory units are:

  • Introduction to communication
  • Introduction to personal development
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion
  • Introduction to duty of care
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection
  • The role of a health and social care worker
  • Implement person centred approaches
  • Contribute to health and safety
  • Handle information
