Practical Vs Theory


Course overview

A triple threat course where you will refine your skills in singing, dancing and acting whilst advancing your individuality and performance technique. You will study and train in a variety of areas including: singing technique, rehearsal technique, principles of acting, storytelling, devising, ballet, jazz, commercial dance and performing arts as a business.

All assessments are written and developed to enable students to gain and develop practical skils whilst gaining a qualification. You will undertake an additional LAMDA qualification to support your progression to sought after drama schools and/​or universities and develop your performance skills. LAMDA qualifications are recognised by UCAS and contribute towards your points calculation.


Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 4/​C or above including English and maths, and a successful audition at one of our audition days.

Worried about your grades?

Whatever your results, we want to assure you that extenuating circumstances will be considered should you not have the grades indicated above. 

We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.

One of the ways we do this is through a very effective 6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):

  • Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks
  • Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy /​too hard
  • Incorporating English and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t meet the grades you need
  • One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

Additional Information

You will be expected to commit to rehearsal schedules and some additional hours for performances. You will be required to wear uniform for classes as per the essential kit list provided before starting the course.


ESPA are in the process of developing a virtual student experience platform. This will include a tour of the facilities, conversations with ESPA tutors, taster sessions and student voice from those currently on courses here. This is still in the development stages, however we hope to launch this in the next 4 weeks. 

Following on from our virtual student experience we will open for applications and auditions, auditions will commence from January, and are likely to be online.

Potential Future Career

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress to the HND in Performing Arts at The Eastern School of Performing Arts or study at prestigious performing arts schools. Previous students have gone on to study at establishments such as: Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama, Italia Conti, Liverpool Theatre School, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and Stella Mann.
