Course overview

Gain the hands-on skills and training you need to become a Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician. You will plan, select, install, service, commission and maintain all aspects of plumbing and heating systems. You will learn how to take accurate measuring, marking, cutting, bending and jointing, metallic and non-metallic pipework, and install new environment technologies such as: heat pumps, solar themal systems, biomass boilers and water recycling systems.

 

What Does The Programme Include

You will be employed as an apprentice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a workplace mentor or supervisor who will be responcible for your training and welfare at work. You will attend college for workshop sessions as required. An assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress against standards and set SMART objectives.

Entry Requirements

Individual employers set their own entry requirements. However, you will typically required 5 GCSEs at grades 4/​C or above includng English and maths. You will need to pass an initial aptitude test. 

Potential Future Career

As a fully competent Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician, you will meet the requirements needed to undertake Gas Safe Training courses to register on a Competent Person Scheme (CPS).
