Professional Studies (Early Childhood) Foundation Degree - 21/22

Course overview

This course is based at the Stamford Campus of University Centre Peterborough and awarded by Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln.

If you currently work in an early years setting with children aged between 0 and 8 years old, the Early Childhood pathway of our Professional Studies Foundation Degree is for you.

Suitable roles include private or maintained nursery staff, child-minders, nannies or those working in a variety of professional settings with young children.

This work-focussed foundation degree is a combination of practice-based learning and campus-based sessions, which run once a week so that you are still able to continue in employment throughout the duration of the course.

The course is designed to improve your personal and professional communication skills and will increase your knowledge and understanding of how children learn by developing new ways of working and challenging existing assumptions.

You will learn though lectures, seminars, workshops and guest speakers from the sector. These will provide opportunities for you to discuss, question and challenge.

After graduating you will be qualified to take on higher level roles, specialising in areas such as family liaison, specialised support roles, management responsibilities in early years, mentoring or working in the wider community or private, voluntary and maintained sector.

The courses at University Centre Peterborough are studied in smaller class sizes compared with other universities, a typical class size is under 30 students.

Real work placements on the course help prepare you for the real world and have helped me gain the experience I needed to secure an offer to study a Degree in Primary Education.
