Course overview

Mas­ter your skills and expe­ri­ence in site car­pen­try through prac­ti­cal tasks to match real indus­try sce­nar­ios. You will gain hands-on, trans­fer­able expe­ri­ence through study­ing a range of units such as: car­ry­ing out first fix­ing oper­a­tions, car­ry­ing out sec­ond fix­ing oper­a­tions, erect­ing com­plex struc­tur­al car­cass­ing com­po­nents, installing and main­tain­ing non-struc­tur­al and struc­tur­al com­po­nents, and set­ting up and oper­at­ing cut­ting and shap­ing machinery.

 

What Does The Pro­gramme Include

You will com­plete work books and assign­ments using online resources. At lev­el 3 you will be expect­ed to demon­strate inde­pen­dent learn­ing to pre­pare you for employ­ment and con­tin­ued pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment. You will also take part in a Con­struc­tion work place­ment which will give you on-site expe­ri­ence along­side oppor­tu­ni­ties to com­plete rel­e­vant com­mu­ni­ty projects.

Entry Require­ments

A Site Car­pen­try Diplo­ma Lev­el 2, or equiv­a­lent qual­i­fi­ca­tion, or rel­e­vant indus­try experience.

What­ev­er your results, we want to assure you that exten­u­at­ing cir­cum­stances will be con­sid­ered should you not have the grades indi­cat­ed above. 

We will review each appli­ca­tion on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suit­able for you.

One of the ways we do this is through a very effec­tive 6 weeks to suc­cess pro­gramme’ that oper­ates from the first day you start your course. This includes sup­port such as (but not lim­it­ed to):

  • Allow­ing you to change cours­es if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks
  • Mov­ing you between course lev­els if you are find­ing your cur­rent lev­el too easy / too hard
  • One-to-one reviews with your aca­d­e­m­ic tutor to ensure you are pro­gress­ing and achiev­ing well

How The Course Will Be Assessed

Each unit has a mul­ti­ple choice core test, as well a prac­ti­cal syn­op­tic test in the work­shop. You will receive reg­u­lar feed­back on your per­for­mance and help and advice to enable you to be suc­cess­ful in the actu­al assessments.

Addi­tion­al Information

You will require a uni­form con­sist­ing of black full length work trousers, black polo shirts, black sweat­shirts and safe­ty footwear for the work­shop, which can be pur­chased on our web­site, along with a change of footwear when leav­ing the work­shop. You will also need course spe­cif­ic text books and sta­tionery. You will be sent a full list of mate­ri­als and equip­ment pri­or to enrolment.

Poten­tial Future Career

On suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course, you can progress to Con­struc­tion and Engi­neer­ing degrees at uni­ver­si­ty. You could also progress to job roles such as an Appren­tice Site Car­pen­ter or Bench Join­er, Tim­ber Sales­man, or Machinist.

  • Analysing tech­ni­cal infor­ma­tion, quan­ti­ties and com­mu­ni­ca­tion with others
  • Analysing the con­struc­tion indus­try and built environment
  • Car­ry out first fix­ing operations
  • Car­ry out sec­ond fix­ing operations
  • Erect com­plex struc­tur­al car­cass­ing components
  • Health, Safe­ty and Wel­fare in con­struc­tion and asso­ci­at­ed industries
  • Install and main­tain non-struc­tur­al and struc­tur­al componenta
  • Set up and oper­ate cut­ting and shap­ing machinery
