Course overview

Sport and exer­cise sci­en­tists con­tin­ue to be a grow­ing pres­ence in the world of work. This course has a greater empha­sis on sports sci­ence units which are entry require­ments on degrees such as Phys­io­ther­a­py and Sport Sci­ence. You will also gain top tips from guest speak­ers and have the chance to go on trips to real work­places with­in the indus­try such as the Eng­lish Insti­tute of Sport and Sport City Manchester.

 

What Does The Pro­gramme Include

Learn­ing will be through group work, peer assess­ment, indi­vid­ual tasks, meth­ods of ILT, pow­er point presentations.

Entry Require­ments

5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above includ­ing Eng­lish and maths or a Mer­it grade in the Sport Diplo­ma Lev­el 2.

Need to re-sit? No prob­lem. If you don’t achieve a Grade 4/C in GCSE maths or Eng­lish, you’ll resit the exams with us and we’ll help you prepare.

Wor­ried about your grades?

What­ev­er your results, we want to assure you that exten­u­at­ing cir­cum­stances will be con­sid­ered should you not have the grades indi­cat­ed above. 

We will review each appli­ca­tion on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suit­able for you.

One of the ways we do this is through a very effec­tive 6 weeks to suc­cess pro­gramme’ that oper­ates from the first day you start your course. This includes sup­port such as (but not lim­it­ed to):

  • Allow­ing you to change cours­es if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks
  • Mov­ing you between course lev­els if you are find­ing your cur­rent lev­el too easy / too hard
  • Incor­po­rat­ing Eng­lish and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t meet the grades you need
  • One-to-one reviews with your aca­d­e­m­ic tutor to ensure you are pro­gress­ing and achiev­ing well

How The Course Will Be Assessed

There will be a vari­ety of assess­ment meth­ods used (writ­ten assess­ments, obser­va­tions, pre­sen­ta­tions and dis­cus­sions being some) and learn­ers will have a thor­ough under­stand­ing of the evi­dence they are expect­ed to pro­duce. One unit – exter­nal exam­i­na­tion. One unit – exter­nal course­work. Most units course­work assessed.

Addi­tion­al Information

Course cost of approx. £150.00 will be towards uni­form and trips/​visits

Rug­by Devel­op­ment Cen­tre now avail­able to Sport and Exer­cise Sci­ence Extend­ed Diplo­ma Lev­el 3 students.

The cen­tre has been designed for stu­dents keen to main­tain fur­ther study­ing whilst con­tin­u­ing to pur­sue train­ing and prac­tice in Rugby.

Mon­day to Thurs­day — Study Sport and Exer­cise Extend­ed Diplo­ma Lev­el 3 (see image below). Fri­day — 3 hours Rug­by Train­ing EXTRA — 3 hours train­ing to be secured week­ly with either Stam­ford Rug­by Club or a local club of your choice.

Stam­ford Rug­by Club: Tues­day 7.00 to 8.30pm and Thurs­day 7.00 to 8.30pm.

Poten­tial Future Career

This course is equiv­a­lent to 3 A Lev­els so, on suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course, you can progress to study sport degrees at Uni­ver­si­ty. You could also progress to careers in Sports Coach­ing, PE Teach­ing, Phys­io­ther­a­py, Sports Jour­nal­ism or Sports Therapy.

You will study 13 units, 7 of these are manda­to­ry and con­sist of 4 exter­nal­ly assessed/​exam based units:

  • Anato­my and Physiology
  • Sports Psy­chol­o­gy
  • Fit­ness Testing
  • Prac­ti­cal Sport

Option­al:

  • Exer­cise, Health and Lifestyle
  • Work Expe­ri­ence
  • Research Meth­ods
  • Sport and Exer­cise Physiology.
