Course overview
Sport and exercise scientists continue to be a growing presence in the world of work. This course has a greater emphasis on sports science units which are entry requirements on degrees such as Physiotherapy and Sport Science. You will also gain top tips from guest speakers and have the chance to go on trips to real workplaces within the industry such as the English Institute of Sport and Sport City Manchester.
What Does The Programme Include
Learning will be through group work, peer assessment, individual tasks, methods of ILT, power point presentations.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and maths or a Merit grade in the Sport Diploma Level 2
We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.
One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):
- Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑subject to availability
- Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy / too hard — subject to availability
- One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

How The Course Will Be Assessed
There will be a variety of assessment methods used (written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions being some) and learners will have a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce. One unit – external examination. One unit – external coursework. Most units coursework assessed.

Rugby Development Centre now available to Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma Level 3 students.
The centre has been designed for students keen to maintain further studying whilst continuing to pursue training and practice in Rugby.
Monday to Thursday — Study Sport and Exercise Extended Diploma Level 3. Friday — 3 hours Rugby Training EXTRA — 3 hours training to be secured weekly with either Stamford Rugby Club or a local club of your choice.
Stamford Rugby Club: Tuesday 7.00 to 8.30pm and Thursday 7.00 to 8.30pm.
Potential Future Career
This course is equivalent to 3 A Levels so, on successful completion of this course, you can progress to study sport degrees at University. You could also progress to careers in Sports Coaching, PE Teaching, Physiotherapy, Sports Journalism or Sports Therapy.
Course Content
You will study 13 units, 7 of these are mandatory and consist of 4 externally assessed/exam based units:
Mandatory:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Sports Psychology
- Fitness Testing
- Practical Sport
Optional:
- Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
- Work Experience
- Research Methods
- Sport and Exercise Physiology.
