Practical Vs Theory
Course overview
This course will allow you to develop your knowledge and skills in sport and public services. You will take part in sport activities and learn how the body works and some of the key skills required for public service employment. You will also develop key skills in English, maths and ICT to develop your independence and employability.
You will have the opportunity to take part in trips and activities arranged by a range of the public service and sport guest speakers and other services. Throughout the year there will be opportunities to volunteer and enhance your CV through community projects.
What Does The Programme Include
You will learn through group work, peer assessment, individual tasks, methods of ILT and powerpoint presentations. In previous years we have taken part in the following visits: St Georges park English Institute of sport Olympic Stadium Birmingham futsal arena University visits Skiing trip Lilleshall national centre for excellence
Entry Requirements
This qualification requires at least Entry Level 3 in English and maths.
We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.<?xml:namespace prefix = “o” />
One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):
- Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑subject to availability
- Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy / too hard — subject to availability
- Enrolling you on the appropriate level of maths and English study programme
- One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

How The Course Will Be Assessed
There will be a variety of coursework orientated assessment methods used (written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions being some) you will gain a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce.
Additional Information
This is a Vocational Studies course which is aimed to prepare for entry into the public services. It consists of both practical and theory lessons and is highly disciplined to implement how the services will be upon entry. This course is a Sport and Public Services combined course and therefore you will choose what uniform you want whether this is the Sport uniform or Public Services uniform.
Potential Future Career
On successful completion of this course you could progress on to the Public Services or Sport Diploma Level 2, or enter employment.
