Course overview

This course will allow you to devel­op your knowl­edge and skills in sport and pub­lic ser­vices. You will take part in sport activ­i­ties and learn how the body works and some of the key skills required for pub­lic ser­vice employ­ment. You will also devel­op key skills in Eng­lish, maths and ICT to devel­op your inde­pen­dence and employability. 

You will have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to take part in trips and activ­i­ties arranged by a range of the pub­lic ser­vice and sport guest speak­ers and oth­er ser­vices. Through­out the year there will be oppor­tu­ni­ties to vol­un­teer and enhance your CV through com­mu­ni­ty projects.

 

What Does The Pro­gramme Include

You will learn through group work, peer assess­ment, indi­vid­ual tasks, meth­ods of ILT and pow­er­point pre­sen­ta­tions. In pre­vi­ous years we have tak­en part in the fol­low­ing vis­its: St Georges park Eng­lish Insti­tute of sport Olympic Sta­di­um Birm­ing­ham fut­sal are­na Uni­ver­si­ty vis­its Ski­ing trip Lille­shall nation­al cen­tre for excellence

Entry Require­ments

This qual­i­fi­ca­tion requires at least Entry Lev­el 3 in Eng­lish and maths.

We will review each appli­ca­tion on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suit­able for you.<?xml:namespace pre­fix = o” />

One of the ways we do this is through a very effec­tive 6 weeks to suc­cess pro­gramme’ that oper­ates from the first day you start your course. This includes sup­port such as (but not lim­it­ed to): 

  • Allow­ing you to change cours­es if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑sub­ject to availability 
  • Mov­ing you between course lev­els if you are find­ing your cur­rent lev­el too easy / too hard — sub­ject to availability
  • Enrolling you on the appro­pri­ate lev­el of maths and Eng­lish study programme 
  • One-to-one reviews with your aca­d­e­m­ic tutor to ensure you are pro­gress­ing and achiev­ing well

How The Course Will Be Assessed

There will be a vari­ety of course­work ori­en­tat­ed assess­ment meth­ods used (writ­ten assess­ments, obser­va­tions, pre­sen­ta­tions and dis­cus­sions being some) you will gain a thor­ough under­stand­ing of the evi­dence they are expect­ed to produce. 

Addi­tion­al Information

This is a Voca­tion­al Stud­ies course which is aimed to pre­pare for entry into the pub­lic ser­vices. It con­sists of both prac­ti­cal and the­o­ry lessons and is high­ly dis­ci­plined to imple­ment how the ser­vices will be upon entry. This course is a Sport and Pub­lic Ser­vices com­bined course and there­fore you will choose what uni­form you want whether this is the Sport uni­form or Pub­lic Ser­vices uniform.

Poten­tial Future Career

On suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course you could progress on to the Pub­lic Ser­vices or Sport Diplo­ma Lev­el 2, or enter employment.
