Course overview

The BTEC Lev­el 3 Nation­al Diplo­ma in Sport, Fit­ness and Per­son­al Train­ing is equiv­a­lent in size to two A lev­els. It is a two year, full time pro­gramme for those who want to work in the health and fit­ness indus­try includ­ing as a gym instruc­tor and per­son­al train­er. The qual­i­fi­ca­tion pro­vides the knowl­edge and devel­ops skills required for pro­fes­sion­al accred­i­ta­tion with CIMSPA (Char­tered Insti­tute of Man­age­ment for Sport and Phys­i­cal Activ­i­ty) as a Gym Instruc­tor and Per­son­al Trainer.This course is deliv­ered in part­ner­ship with Rhi­nos Gym Stam­ford who pro­vide some of the gym space used dur­ing prac­ti­cal ses­sions. The course also utilis­es the gym at Bor­derville Sports Centre.

 

What Does The Pro­gramme Include

The Diplo­ma in Sport, Fit­ness and Per­son­al Train­ing offers a mix of learn­ing activ­i­ties – includ­ing prac­ti­cal gym work not only in the gym at Bor­derville Sports Cen­tre but also at our part­ner gym, Rhi­nos. There are a num­ber of class­room-based lessons cov­er­ing the­o­ry such as Anato­my and Phys­i­ol­o­gy along­side a full pro­gramme of trips and vis­its into indus­try. A work expe­ri­ence week allows for learn­ers to find a place­ment in their local com­mu­ni­ty and devel­op their knowl­edge of the indus­try further.

Entry Require­ments

4 GCSEs grade 4 and above INCLUD­ING ENG­LISH.

Eng­lish is essen­tial for the writ­ten part of the course. There are a num­ber of reports such as client feed­back forms which need to be writ­ten and there­fore Eng­lish is essen­tial. Those who do not achieve Eng­lish can start on the L2 Sport pro­gramme, and progress to L3 the fol­low­ing year.


If you do not receive a 4 in Maths you will be able to retake this as part of your pro­gramme of study on the Lev­el 3 course.

How The Course Will Be Assessed

The Sport, Fit­ness and Per­son­al Train­ing course is 100% course­work assessed. This includes videos, writ­ten reports, pre­sen­ta­tions, obser­va­tions and demon­stra­tions.
There are no exams on this course.

Addi­tion­al Information

Per­son­al Train­er Uni­form required (cost between £100 and £140 depend­ing on the pack­age purchased)

£100 per year trips and vis­its fee to include ALL trips and vis­its asso­ci­at­ed with the course.

No pri­or expe­ri­ence is required but an inter­est in health and fit­ness is essential.

Poten­tial Future Career

The BTEC Lev­el 3 Diplo­ma in Sport, Fit­ness and Per­son­al Train­ing has a pri­ma­ry focus on pro­gres­sion to employ­ment as a Per­son­al Train­er. This allows learn­ers to work inde­pen­dent­ly as a per­son­al train­er and gives them the skills and exper­tise need­ed to work with clients at dif­fer­ent lev­els of fit­ness and across a wide age range. It is also suit­able for those who want a career in the leisure and ser­vice indus­try, such as in a leisure cen­tre. The qual­i­fi­ca­tion attracts UCAS points and is recog­nised by high­er-edu­ca­tion providers as meet­ing entry require­ments to many degree lev­el programmes.
